Artist's Comments

"We had a jar with a butterfly.
We opened the lid and it flew to the sky.
And there are things inside my head
Waiting to be thought or said;
Dreams and jokes and wonderings are
Locked inside, like a butterfly jar.
But then, when you are here with me,
I can open the lid and set them free."

So much to think about. Time to wander.
("Iyenye" means 'butterfly' in Urubu, a Nigerian language.)

Great shot!

what lens did you use on this one??? the 105mm macro? I have the 60mm macro and wouldn't dream of being able to get that close!
Thanks so much. :)
I took this with a 200mm telephoto lens and my Nikon D40X. What kind of camera do you have? And how do you like your macro lens? I was thinking about saving up for one. ^^

All the blue light reflections that color my mind when I sleep
And the lovesick rejections that accompany the company I keep
All the razor perceptions that cut just a little too deep
Hey, I can bleed as well as anyone but I need someone to help me sleep
Really....hmmm....i have the 70-300mm VR telephoto...it may work for that sort of thing.

And about my macro lens. It's the nikon 60mm AF f2.8 that I got used for about $300. The AF lenses won't work with your D40x, but they just came out with the same lens with the AF-S focus system, so it will work great. Unfortunately, it will cost you a bundle because it's new and difficult to find used anywhere.

That being said, I shoot with my macro lens on my D80 all the time and I absolutely love the shots I have gotten thus far. The lens is super sharp...f2.8 is good for most lighting indoors and out...it has a pretty solid AF...and great gives a great blur effect. I would definitely recommend the new one for this kind of photography, but if you want to take pictures of insects, use the 105mm macro so you can sit further away and not worry about scaring the buggers.

I think that right now I'm satisfied with my four lenses. I make regular use of the nikkor 18-70mm AF-S, the nikkor 70-300mm AF-S, the nikkor 50mm AF f1.8, and the nikkor 60mm AF Macro. They're not the priciest pieces of glass available, but they cover me for just about every situation imaginable.
Sorry that was a bit long-winded.

and I'm still angry with Nikon for not putting AF compatibility in the d40 and d40x cameras...it was the only thing that made me go with the d80...AF lenses have gotten CHEAP in the past several years.
thats so beautiful  !!
